The processing plant, produced by Carnitech, consists of the most advanced equipment on the market for land-based processing of warm-water prawns.

In connection with the inauguration of the new factory, which was carried out by the UK Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, Seamark also introduced its new brand name, “Mr Prawn”, which in the future will be the collective name of Seamark’s products. “Seamark looked for a concept and name which would be simple, clear, easy to pronounce and at the same have some warmth and personality”, says the Managing Director of Seamark, Mr. Iqbal Ah-med. He continues, “All Mr Prawn pro-ducts are processed and packed in our new Manchester factory, where the most modern packaging and processing equipment from Carnitech is installed.”

Steam cooking

“Immediately after thawing the blockfrozen shrimps are cooked in advanced high pressure steam cookers under the most hygienic conditions”, says Mr Iqbal Ahmed. “This results in optimum preservation of taste, texture, and colour”. After cooking the products go through quick and gentle IQF-freezing and limited glazing. The core temperature of -18oC secures maximum storage time.

Raw materials from the far east

Seamark imports prawns from the Far East and the Asian area. The fact that Carnitech is highly experienced in dealing with products from these areas and flexible tailor-made solutions as well secured Carnitech the honor of the contract. In addition to delivering the processing equipment, which also includes Sabroe’s cooling plant, Carnitech also provides a thorough training of the Seamark employees, who will be responsible for the daily operation of the machinery”.

Large and still growing market for prawns

Highly industrialized contries make great demands as for quality and hygienic standard of the products. Due to this and the still increasing demand for prawns, Carnitech has invested comprehensive means in a goal-oriented development of standardized machines, meeting these demands. The initial costs for prawn processing equipment often make up a considerable part of the total investment. Therefore, it is essential that factors such as high yield percentage and easy cleaning are taken into consideration when planning to buy new or renovated existing equipment.

Competitive products

Seamark is the development of a business founded in Manchester in 1976. Known today as Iqbal Bros., it has become over the years one of UK’s leading prawn and fish wholesale business throughout the world. “I’m convinced that Seamark will be even more successful with its processed prawn products thanks to the new processing plant”, says Mr Karsten Mathiasen from Carni-tech. “We have supplied customers in many countries with similar types of processing equipment with very satisfactory results as to profitability to our customers”.
